Why should more young people choose the development sector?
Because the country needs them. India is ranked 130 out of 189 on the United Nations Human Development Index, and 103 out of 119 on the Global Hunger Index. Due to a long-drawn malnutrition crisis, India holds almost a third of the world’s burden for stunting, or low height with regard to age.
Evidently, India needs help. It is crushing under the weight of multiple crises and it is the young people who are bearing the brunt of these crises. These complex problems require novel solutions and the youth has visible potential to become the creative forces of social change. Their vitality and dynamism can fast-track development, while their interconnectedness can help drive social progress.
The youth is empathetic and passionate, and we must tap into these qualities to gain a greater understanding of the many problems and challenges that we are faced with today.
I strongly believe that we should leave no stone unturned to empower the future leaders of tomorrow.
